I don't know how many of you were lucky to see the show in York or the SxSW show in Austin but if you did, then you know what I'm talking about! Let's give it up for Chris Shinn!! He did an amazing job!
If you haven't seen the new line up yet, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise! I can assure you, as a long time fan of the music you're going to love the energy and intensity of the shows. Really excited now for more shows!!!
See you on the road you freaks!
-Jimmy

Yes, Jimmy without a doubt York was amazing and everything I heard from SXSW was just as stellar if not greater. Chris Shinn is an amazing talent and we all should be thankful he is aboard for this ride.
Live returns. Jimmy returns. How can this get any better?!?!
Your shots from York show look awesome BTW.. If you guys haven't seen them yet check it out http://imagesbytodd.com
Jimmy, I have that same picture of Taylor's "bird" on my pc at home...i use it as a profile pic sometimes.
YAY for Jimmy being back :) xx
Since I'm in a conversation among two excellent photographers.....You guys have managed to get a photo to work for your profile pic here....I still can't manage to get mine working.....any special tricks :)
It didn't seem to like the image I used, complained that it was going to resize it to fit 84x84, but then it still didn't show up! So I took an image and resized it to 84x84 and it liked that. Try cropping your image to that size and it should work.
Hey Jimmy,
Glad to see the Hiatus come to an end. Now how about a Candlebox / TGF / Live tour!!!!
Jimmy, This is your shot, which Michele used to us on the SOY banner. I liked it and I asked you forprior permission to use it as my avatar and you said OK. It has become my iconic expression for all things live.
As for my photos from York - I am so glad that I asked that nice older lady at the front door if I could bring my camera in. She was very nice and said yes. So I shot over the head of that huge guy standing in front of me all night and I am quite happy with the results, considering the circumstances. I didn't get to run around along side fo the stage like certain people. But it is amazing what the D700 can do at 3200 ISO and an 85mm f1.8 lens on it in difficult lighting.
Oh I don't mind you using it, it just makes me crack up whenever I see it. If you need some other Taylor Birdie shots I've got a slew of them where he greets me with his fave gesture. haha.
Damn, those are at 3200? Shit.. I really need to get a new camera FF body soon. I'm still shooting with a discontinued 6 year old technology in my camera :( I'm gonna have save up and buy new gear, the sensors these days are so good at low-light! I can only imagine what my stuff will look like! My 3200 ISO shots are sooooo grainy right now. You better watch out when I get my new gear hehehe.
Some but not all of the shots I took were at ISO 3200. They were all definitely above 1600 though. That's why when you kep asking me if I wanted to try your 85mm 1.4 I was like "nah, I'm good". I had my 85 stopped down to about f2.2. The D700 is all the camera I will ever need. The new D800 has way too many pixels and the pixels on the D700 are bigger. I wouldn't updgrade. And you know the D700 is way down in price. But if you go FF, you will need to get the Nikon 24-70 2.8. That lens is so sweet. I didn't use it in York because I felt like I was sneaking my photos and I didn't want to be conspicuous with a big lens. So here I am again. In the year 2012. Chatting with Jimmy like it was 10 years ago. Some things never change. Great to see you in York by the way.
OK, back on topic. about Live...
I'm just waiting for you to throw and R2D2 or C3PO in there somewhere...
Nice to see all you Freaks here!!! This band is for us!!!
I think the most of the people here is also active on the FOL message board..
This is one time I am honored to be called a "freak".
Just wanted to say a big thank you to Jimmy and Todd for the amazing pics!!
I still remember the pic Jimmy posted of the Star Wars box-set circa '03/04. First time I'd seen it. All i remember it said in bold: "For the First time on DVD..." Image of Darth Vader on the box. I knew then I had to have it. Damn you Jimmy...
Jimmy just make sure you round the boys up for a long awaited return down under some time!
The best part of not being able to make it to the shows is to see the photos that Jimmy, Todd, and others take as well as all the stories those that do attend share! So a huge thank you to JL and Todd for the Monday night shots, and Zman, Dancing Queen, The Thrill and OTD for their constant updates :) You all rock!!!!
Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It only seems like yesterday haha! Good onya Jimmy a deadset legend & one of the nicest people on the planet!!
Great to see another familiar name too, Todd, where ya been LOL !!! I often wondered about you & how you're photography was going! I've kept in touch with Jimmy over the years. Todd you might recall you & Jimmy were the first 2 guys to advise me with buying camera etc, gosh some 4 years ago now.
I've come along way, still learning. Great to see images again Todd!! My website is being rebuilt but I'm sure you'd be interested in seeing some of my work since those early days of you & jimmy's initial guidance. This is just some of my pro/non pro camera stuff http://www.flickr.com/photos/gerry_70/sets/ I'm really into surfing photography of late.
Anyway, it's great to see the rebirth of Live again!
Cheers
Gerry
Hmmm maybe that link didn't work, try http://www.flickr.com/photos/gerry_70/
So when is the first philly show? I need a concert while I can afford a concer!
All of the oldies but goodies are coming out of the woodwork! Great to hear from you and see your work Gerry! Of course I remember chatting about cameras. It looks like you have really been developing your skills. I have been posting at fansoflive.com for the last 3 years and haven't gone anywhere.
Man I hope to getthe opportunity to shoot some more Live shows soon!
Yeah I went cold turkey with the whole Live saga, especially when Jimmy shut down SOY :P I stayed clear of FOL too, gosh I used to chat with Dan G on MSN regularly but haven't done that in like 18mths. Bet he's still using that soccer player avatar haha.
I've shot Ed his past 2 visits to OZ, these being my most recent http://flic.kr/s/aHsjsqNCv4 . This particular venue is notorious for red lights (bang your head against the wall LOL). My biggest photographic achievement to date was directly approaching Muse and being given an opportunity to shoot them in the USA. I'm now on first name basis with their tour manager. He paid me a great compliement during the 10 shows I saw (photographed 1 professionally, whilst even though it was soundboard it was still a great thrill ) when he said some of my non pro shots (I'd often email him after the gigs) of them were as good if not better than some of the other pro photographer shots. Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot them again when they come out to OZ. As I type I just got approved to shoot Lenny Kravitz / The Cranberries this weekend. Can't wait to get my new website up, was pretty basic to begin with and served it's initial purpose.
I'm really in love with the surfing, to the point if someone said to me tomorrow which would you choose if I had to I'd say surfing 100%. Here's a montage of my most recent surfing shots. http://youtu.be/iriEaT6coqg
Great to reconnect with you again!
The soccer avatar is alive and well haha
Yeah I messaged Dan today....somethings never change haha.
Are you calling me old?
I kinda avoided fans of live for a while, while I nursed my broken heart over the break up, but now I'm back obsessing.
Hey everyone. I just found out this info today, about the band reforming, playing shows, new singer. It's a lot to absorb. I'll write more soon. :)
I feel so honored that I got to attend and see the guys again!
I just want to say its good to be back with Live and the momentum is all dependent on us....spread the word, share the pics and YouTube...soon we may have some new Live music to cherish!!!
